yeah surprise some people go do other things with their lives sometimes believe it or not
|
| |
"so i guess what's happening is the same thing is happening to pop and so everything's kind of exponentially exploding with the market"
the market it not exploding
"how can the industry even support half these artists?"
it doesn't
"no one buys music anymore except for the wannabe hipster types who buy records from urban outfitters to go home and not play on their nonexistent turntable"
i dont think i like you
|
| |
"honestly rosa was a huge dick by himself, i mean i haven't been around this site long but everyone hates snide and he was way worse than snide"
yeah but unlike snide he goes away

not a lot of people are paying for records be honest dude
|
| |
but yeah quantity of artists has nothing to do with the industry being able to support more artists
the music industry is literally in shambles right now

"does snide literally just make a new alt every time he gets banned?"
yes, and they last a week
|
| |
"not a lot of people are paying for records be honest dude"
a lot more than "a bunch of hipsters going to urban outfitters and playing them on their non existent record players" tho
records have made a huge come back
cd stores go out of business, local record stores flourish.
|
| |
no, there definitely are way more artists
its because technology is more easily accessible and less expensive and we have access to vast social networks. so anyone can make and record music and put it out there. and even aside from the millions who can DIY these days, sound engineers etc are making way less money and therefore recording professionally is also much less expensive and more accessible. money for the artists themselves doesnt really factor into it. most people dont make music for money.

but unless you're doing it as a side thing (and it's a trend that's definitely been growing), even if u don't care about money u still need to pay ur bills
|
| |
"i wonder how record stores actually are doing as opposed to urban and stuff like that
and the only reason i made that comment is because there was a recent survey that found that half of record consumers literally don't play their records even once"
vinyls are collectables man. it makes them niche and like any other collectables, hardcores don't 'play' with them.
|
| |
"but unless you're doing it as a side thing (and it's a trend that's definitely been growing), even if u don't care about money u still need to pay ur bills"
i dont see how thats relevant. obviously everyone needs to pay their bills.
"i wish that meant that there's more 'good' music released per X period of time too, but that's not really the case, at least from what i've listened to"
it would be impossible to objectively quantify something so subjective but i guess you could argue that there are MORE good artists technically since there are in general so many more artists...
but i think the ratio of good to bad artists remains pretty much the same.
|
| |
"i guess. i'd never be able to do that, i love the sound of vinyl too much. i can't imagine having a great record sit around and not just break down one day and play it"
me neither. but people are weird. i buy comics and the fact that most comic collectors dont even read their comics just seems ludicrous to me.
but yeah, collectables. its a whole other thing.
|
| |
plus most collectables dont actually appraise nearly as well as they used to. whats the point. its not like you could be sitting on a 10,000 dollar comic anymore.

I just listened again this morning, and well yeah my rating is right on how much I like it.
The only song better this time was Freedom, but not by much.
I'd like Don't Hurt Yourself if she didn't do whatever she is doing with her voice.
|
| |
man I love that, she's so fierce
|
| |
im going to wait 20 years to listen to this when the heat's off so im not making a political statement by not liking it
