If their contract with their record company says otherwise, they have to return they've been told to

So, one of the tracks on the new record is called "Barstool Warrior", which sounds bright and melodic and inspired by the UK and Peter Gabriel, and is a concept song:

"...features some of their most aggressive music to date."
"...they still managed to find new and unique ways to approach the writing and recording process."
I'm not just worried, I'm pretty scared tbh. The whole article emphasizes in painful clearness there's no inspiration left in them. I desperatly hope they will prove me wrong but it all reeks of total failure.

I get the feeling that they tried way too hard to appeal to their fans with this record, and I don't really think that's going to work. Oh well, I can't really be dissapointed tbh

It's hard indeed to feel disappointed after listening to this one but I still wish and somehow hope so hard they will recover and come up with something amazing again, so there's still room for disappointment here.

If they make something just as good as their self-titled I'd be surprised. I don't think they really have anything left in them

Yeah, same here... It sounds like they're trying to be extra mega special heavy this time to compensate for this one. Despair's looming over the new record :-/ I can't shrug off this feeling. Still hoping for the best and not only for some kind of damage control.

I am most scared of James' vocals to heavy instrumentals at this stage. I actually grew to like his voice with time, but since the self titled one it's growing to be grating. The teaser didn't help at all

I had the ultimate idea. Instead of letting James sing he should play the melodies on a kazoo. The shows would improve immediately

Petrucci sounds as good as ever. Mangini still sounds like he's on autopilot tho. So flat, jeez. Also suspicious that the teaser had no vocals. Not too excited.

There is a teaser with vocals though. And it wasn't that good

It was quite good. All you fucking bellends who believe you are better then Dream Theater, just get over yourselfs. Fucking wankers.

Don't really find myself coming back to it. It was pretty boring and it's a shame the production is STILL bad hahah

New track is better than anything on here but production will indeed be terrible it seems, up to the point that it kills any intricacies the music might contain making it feel cold and emotionless.

Petrucci needs to get someone else to produce, he sucks.

That's the largest void Portnoy left imo, atleast he had an ear for decent sound quality.

Calling anything here intricate is ridiculous given that so much of it sounds like bad soft rock.
