Malevolent Creation, Sinister, and Monstrosity kill all [2]

Although I happen to like Aggressive Measures as much as I like Hate. The Silent Howling wasn't bad either, at least from memory, just not as good as the others. Nothing will ever come close to their first 2 records though.

Decided to finally give this band a chance last night after they came up in the suggestions box on Youtube. I'm so god damned happy I did. This really is some of the best metal I've ever heard. Never been a fan of Black Metal, but this sounds more like melodic death with black influences too me. Gave The Somberlain a spin too and that's incredible as well. It's a real shame these guys don't have any more albums apart from Reinkaos which I've heard isn't worthwhile.

There's a lot of similar bands out there you'd enjoy, namely Necrophobic. They've been considered Dissection's "rivals" essentially since their inception. Aguynguerran is another band (for me) that falls into the same melodic black/death category. A more recent band to invest time in would be Horrified, particularly their most recent album Allure of the Fallen.

Reinkaos isn't bad btw, just different. More streamlined, but the hooks are pretty great and the musicianship is solid. It gets a bad rap because it's not in the style of this and The Somberlain, but it's worthwhile.

Just listening to Necrophobic's new track Mark Of The Necrogram on spotify and its really good. Thanks for the suggestion, any suggestion on which album would be best to start with? It's not on my spotify, might be because I'm in the UK, where are you from pal?

I had a problem getting this on Spotify, guess it must be a regional thing. Own a physical copy now, worth it. And The Somberlain.

I'm from the US, so yes there's that regional possibility haha. I personally don't care for Watain, but they are fairly popular, well-received and draw comparisons to Dissection. That Horrified album I previously mentioned is also on Spotify.

I might have to invest in a physical copy, which having looked online seems to be much easier for The Somberlain. God damn my new car and its lack of a cd player.

Riffmaster, if you don't know Necrophobic too well, start with The Nocturnal Silence. But most of their discography (that I've heard) is good.

Also, try Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil, as well as their debut "In the Forest of the Dreaming Dead". Both are fantastic albums, though I (and most seem to) favor Ancient. Also, Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun is probably the closest to Dissection (this album in particular) in style -- every bit as good as this album is.
