"This is definitely best BH, but I don't second the Sparks + Space song championing, I mean these are great songs of course but really my faves are all about Beyond love, PPP, Wildflower and Days of Candy "
Yeah, my favorite at the moment is PPP, and Days of Candy, Levitation... This album is a goddamn classic.

Fuck, the second half of Days of Candy is so haunting. Just like that it's gone.

I feel like OTM is the final evolution of this sound

very disagree but that’s fine. seeing them play OTM songs live made me like the album more, even if the scale was going from a 2.5 to a 3. i don’t think they’ve made anything near as consistent before or after this. 7 has some of their best songs but it’s inconsistent. this is the perfect length and vibe
|
| |
nah colton is right. whether or not you like otm, and how consistent you find their various records, are other matters entirely; the songwriting on dc and otm is very similar esp on the slower tunes

well then ur basically saying the songwriting is fundamentally similar to literally any beach house album (true) but idk sonically it’s just not the same at all to me. this feels like a photograph of one thing and OTM feels like random songs, some of which do slap. songwriting here feels genuine and moments of otm feel forced
i met them at the bar i work at when they played here recently 😱

OTM is quite a bit more melodically direct than this

I think they are more prominent relative to the instrumentals but I don't think that necessarily makes them more direct. they're more direct just because of the way they're structured. with the exception of Hurts To Love they pull it off really well by making very detailed instrumentals that don't take away from the earnesty of the melodies. I think that's why some people are underwhelmed by it, the songwriting approach belies the album's real depth. but it does it in a way that feels clearly intentional to me and very craftily implemented

|

sparks as a single for this is an uncharacteristically hilarious choice for BH lol. not the best track though
