I've listened to all their albums a shitton, so I figure all of them can be 5-worthy to varying degrees except for We Were Dead. I still love it, don't get me wrong. However, it feels the least like a Modest Mouse album to me. It's like Isaac wanted to sit down and crank out a bunch of catchy rock songs and succeeded, but it cost them their signature sound to a noticeable extent.
Never quite understood why this gets the shaft when this is classic, crazy, indie, existential Modest Mouse through-and-through. That being said, I embrace my bias, I just happened to heavily connect with this. Like a soundtrack to my life spiraling down a dark tube. It fits.

Basically I'm a depressing shit and I like to pretend Isaac Brock gets me. It's a fun life.

Hes a great lyricist, and certainly a unique vocalist

This just loses steam. Great highlights but a bit by the numbers

I think it flows super well, dips a lot into their various 'selves' that they've explored on different records. Seems like a culmination of sorts, in a way.

Because mm aren't post punk?
They have elements of a whole bunch of genres, maybe there's a bit of the post-punk revival in there hidden real real real real deep
|

My understanding was that every band ever is "post-punk"

And every band is indie rock, that's correct.
Paul Simon is indie folk as well
