@JBawlin: Is that a bad thing? I never pay attention to Pitchfork material, so I wouldn't know. I'd appreciate your input on the piece I wrote for this, love to get more feedback from y'all on this for my own sake.

@SPR - i have some nitpicks i s'pose, seeing as you asked:
"Good Kid, m.A.A.d city was one hell of a rap album"... "you must be on something"
- lines like this are kinda annoying (you're basically saying "if you don't think this album was amazing you must be dumb")
|
| |
-you've got some awkward sentences. for example: "He also focuses on economical strife and politics, the numerous themes here is boundless."
"Lamar even pokes fun at Obama's plan with Cuba, it is absolutely mind-blowing what you're getting here."
- comma splice.
"most creative raps Lamar has conceived. It is a lyrical masterpiece in its own right, contending with Lupe Fiasco's "Mural" as the most creative rap"
- you say "most creative rap" twice here. i highly recommend reading your reviews out loud to help you pick these things out.
- I get that GKMC was a big deal, but you keep reverting back to it in your review. if you're gonna do that, touch on it briefly (as in, what makes this album different/better/worse than GKMC in whatever way, and then leave it at that. review this album, first and foremost, and stop jumping all over the place).
"The multiple layers to the songs on this is incredible, a ton of listening is gonna be coming if you're wanting to truly interpret this record."
- another comma splice.
"There's definitely a ton of jazz influence on the record"
- you already referenced the prominent jazz earlier on in the paragraph. idk man, this review jumps around really messily.
"giving it a bit of an East Coast flavor while still showcasing its West Coast side as well."
- not entirely sure what you mean. is the style of jazz specifically of the east coast variety?
"For once in our goddamn lives, we need to thank Interscope Records for making the major mistake and dropping this amazing record a week before its actual release. An idiotic mistake, but also brilliant - who thought brilliant and Interscope would be in the same sentence?"
- I'm so confused. Why would you think it's a good idea to conclude the review like this? Who the fuck cares about Interscope records in this review? you never even mention them earlier in the review, so it has nothing to do with any discernible thesis.
- come to think of it, your intro paragraph is kinda pointless. it's basically just "IT'S HERE" ... huh ok
- yeah idk man, not your best review by a long shot
