Don't think he's off at all, he hits every note accurately...

He does but those occasional strains are a little cringeworthy

Akerfeldt's stuck in his 70's phase and thinks he's better than everyone else because he's playing in that style which appeals to old school progheads like himself and Wilson but in reality they're ditching what made them so unique in the first place.

this is how i imagine people seeing me when i went on that huge obscure prog binge a while back

I meant based on his general attitude toward his fans and some of the genres he used to play from his interviews, not that he necessarily feels that way but that's how he's coming across. I love that he does what he wants, I don't love him or any of his music any less, and I still consider this and Heritage great albums.

Where did you read that? Can't believe it... Saw him about one and a half months ago and his growling was fine, really good actually.

First saw it on loudwire and then somewhere else. it wasn't exactly clear, but then I see the two prog releases back to back and concluded that. a friend of mine said the same.

They might have lost their punch a bit, agreed. But I have the feeling that Mikael's growling improved again and became more powerful compared with some years ago.

It definitely wasn't as good on Watershed though. I don't think he'll use growls anymore because he's in his 40s now. I can imagine that shit takes a toll on your vocal chords.

Well I believe age affects it, but also how you do that. Just look at Jonas Renkse from Katatonia, he only sings clean now since 1997 and he was just over 20 years then.

Really I'd rather Akerfeldt just sit down on a stool and throw down some Nick Drake jams. No way it could be worse than the last two records.
