It's got a bit more of an electronic edge to it and some of the songs have a more ambient touch to them I'd say. Plus Dissenter is a lot heavier than anything on Cities.

did you listen to dark is the way, light is the place? i think stylistically that is the album this is closest to. it's pretty short and has a decent number of slower songs (4 out of the 10 songs are slower-tempoed: armageddon, atonement, birds of prey, and harbinger), so it doesn't feel as impactful. it's a definite grower.
in terms of quality, i think this is more consistent than Cities, but Cities had more standout songs.

also yeah if you're not a fan of the genre, and you mainly liked cities because it has some really fucking good songs, then you won't like this much. especially since it's a grower and you probably don't have the patience for that in a genre you don't really like
