Incredible album. I think this slightly edges out Awake. I get nervous as I slowly trudge through these DT albums though because I know they start getting worse.

The part that starts around 3:00 is one of my favourite moments of the album, hypnotic

I love it, chorus is a banger and Labrie is fantastic on it. Petrucci and Rudess as well. The reverse solo part took a while for me to like in the beginning because of the dramatic shift, and I thought it held the song back. But its fine now

Misunderstood is phenomenal. Pretty transcendental when you're listening to this whole album and you finally get to the last couple minutes of the song and you're just like "what the fuck am I listening to" in the best way.

Yeah, I really like how experimental it is. Just really weird, and it somehow reminds me of The Beatles' weird stuff. And eventhough it's weird, it's still very catchy, the chorus and melodies are very good. Really doesn't feel like a 9 minute track as well, which is a good thing

That's where LaBrie channels his inner Serj Tankian

Some sections of the title track suite are some of their most bland material up until then. Still, this is record is brilliant

About to Crash and Solitary Shell are so good

I used to play the opening line from Misunderstood all the time when I was learning guitar.

The bland parts of the title track suite are the thrashy ones iirc. The War Inside my Head, The Test That Stumped Them All. Everything else is so good

The main melody of Misunderstood is SO good. The intro is so mellow and soothing

I like them, but yeah they're probably the least interesting parts of the song. I haven't heard them in ages but in my head they're getting mixed up with each other

Honestly find this to be the weakest album other than FiI from what I like to consider DT’s «Golden Era» (debut-ToT).

Seems they tried to go more accesible, and there is a sudden shift to where Petrucci’s metal riffs sound really generic, and the tone sounds more mechanical imo too.

Yeah, this is probably the point when they got their sound worked out down to a formula.
