Yeah I love the cover art, others think its diabolical, there's a weird split about that

you could almost say there's a...

DIVISION

hhehehe

But yeah I'm expecting it, naively as usual, to be fantastic

i'm basically gonna disregard 70s era Floyd when I listen. might use this as a comparison point since they mentioned it rose out of those sessions. that's what i tried to do for Bowie with The Next Day and that was very solid. if it's on par with that i'd be happy.

the smart Money is on it being average but only Time will tell. it may Eclipse this.

i think it's their best non Storm Thorgerson cover at the very least, which admittedly is pretty slim pickings. always thought The Division Bell was great art, even long before hearing it.

I have a feeling the new one might be better than this after hearing that it's going to be predominately instrumental.

"Cover art is horrible."

Geez thanks for coming in Jamie, just when I was worried I wouldn't be able to provide evidence of the opinion contrary to mine! You're a lifesaver

"the smart Money is on it being average but only Time will tell. it may Eclipse this."

Goddamn, your puns are smoother than Quicksilver!

Also I don't understand how a lack of Gilmour vocals is a positive to you JT

i feel the same. there's a stretch of songs on this one that do very little for me. i feel like if they're stepping away from Verse/Chorus/etc a bit and just frigging with soundscapes and Gilmour soloing it could be pretty cool.

"Goddamn, your puns are smoother than Quicksilver!"

stumped me with that ^ don't have that album. i'll hear it one of these days

It's not. A lack of Gilmour's song writing is the positive.

Haha, damn. Its Floyd's worst one anyway so you're not missing that much

@JT But... he still wrote the album. Its not like his songwriting is no longer a factor just because the songs are instrumental, they're all still by him, Rick and Nick. The only thing that's changed is the vocals (best part of this record) are gone

No the thing that that's changed (apparently) is that Gilmour hasn't written lyrics and conventionally structured songs for this album which frankly is a godsend. There's a big difference in writing music and writing songs.

i have a Floyd dead zone in between Piper and Meddle, unless stuff from Relics fell in between those. but interested in going back and hearing those. and another dead zone between The Wall and this one.

i'm usually pretty apprehensive to follow an awesome 60s/70s heyday artist into the 80s. that decade was cruel to more than a few.

I don't understand what the problem with Gilmour's lyrics on this album are but ehh whatever

@Chris I would strongly recommend you hear the Final Cut, although it got savaged when it was released people like me and Jamie defend it these days as one of their best, and superior to the Wall. (Anything JT and I agree on must be pretty much set in stone anyways)

His lyrics aren't terrible or anything but the song writing in general (not just the lyrics) is so bland and uninteresting on here.

Basically Gilmour can write great music but he needs someone else to write songs for him.
