I think with this album, Gojira did the best follow-up to The Way of all Flesh possible, which to me must have seemed quite the task at the time for the band. The music here, in my opinion, feels more streamlined and simplistic, more straight to the point, but with that still distinguishable progressive/technical twist that makes the band instantly recognizable. It's not as immediately satisfying for some people as From Mars... or its successor might have been, but it still manages to deliver the goods and a little extra at times. Favourite tracks for me are the title track and "Born in Winter", the latter of which having excellent guitar work as its real drive.

I know it makes no sense, and I'm probably the only one. But the echo-y vocals on songs like Mouth of Kala and others somehow gives me an old school Moody Blues vibe. But much more metal.
