can you even call this guy dubstep? some of his beats are slightly off beat and people use that as
justification for him belonging to the genre but it's such a vague relation

electro is to do with all the wub wub and 'laser'-like sounds right? that describes him better
overall. and most of the "brostep" producers. don't really see the need for the term "brostep" really

"claiming Skrillex is no longer relevant is really really ignorant. the guy's music will be relevant forever, unfortunately."

Sorry Adrian but in case you haven't noticed pop music is like fashion trends, and yes - this is indeed a form of popular music. (surprised nobody came up with the term 'popstep' yet)

His stuff (not all of it) is still dubstep IMO. It's aesthetically way more like the heavier electro stuff now probably (though not entirely), but it's still built on the dubstep structure.

And yeah Wolf most brostep has just become cheesy pop stuff through the dubstep filter. And if you think the term popstep hasn't been used yet... Pretty much any lame ass name with a -step at the end has been used to describe one producer or another these days.

Uhh granted it's been awhile since I've listened to this but I'd call the majority of this dubstep.

I just throw him under the general "electro" moniker. I mean the two singles off of this aren't dubstep - "Bangarang" is 110 house, and "Kyoto" is half-time DnB/drumstep/fast dubstep/whatever the hell you call that, and while "electro" fits him about as well as it fits someone like deadmau5 it's better than "dubstep."

I don't really see the dubstep really. He's probably closer to it than lot of his peers considering he's actually into older style dubstep and many of these producers literally use the simplest house beats ever, but even on stuff like scary monsters there's little more than that. That's all I can draw from trying to educate myself on these subgenres

I almost killed somebody when they were trying to call Skrillex fidget house at a party.

I'd probably have at a go at anyone who referred to anything as fidget house with a straight face. But hey, p4k attracts new readers every year

My buddy played a song off here and I had to punch myself in the dick to draw my attention away from how offensively awful this is.

"Bangarang" is 110 house,

It's house, stop worrying about tempo - there is no such thing as 110 house

and "Kyoto" is half-time DnB/drumstep/fast dubstep/whatever the hell you call that,

oh dear god

I actually talked about that with a local DnB producer, quite sure he also mentioned UKF in a somewhat negative light. (basically the rise of this whole "cheesy pop through the dubstep filter" stuff)

I mean, I wouldn't even have a problem with this stuff if it wasn't overplayed as fuck. I seriously do not want to listen to 3h of whatever generic dubstep/dubstep remixes.

Fortunately, some people accept some more versatile alternatives like TNGHT - which IMO - is way better party music than a brostep playlist sounding like one song got looped for hours.

Yeah definitely. I got a friend into some of the heavier dubstep I like, stuff like heavier skream, benga, coki, n-type, some HENCH stuff, reso, etc., and he was really digging it, but never liked the deep stuff (thought it was boring), but I always thought I would be able to get him into it eventually. He really liked listening to that kind of stuff for the bass weight I think. But the more he listened to dubstep and got into it himself the more he would start just listening to poppier and cheesier stuff and now he listens to the absolute worst electronic music. Skrillex, Avicii, Knife Party, you fuckin name it. Can't believe I let that happen.

Not even close. His first three releases were solid.
