i dont hate deathcore, but this band has potential to be so good, this album is just bogged down by too much dissonant chord breakdowns

I don't really care for the core parts on this album, but it's great overall. deathcore is a genre for neanderthals

I think there are some. Unless you mean hardcore=badness, then there's probably none.

It's hard to hear any actual hardcore in today's metalcore and deathcore to be perfectly honest.

There are still a fair few, but bands get labelled core because they do breakdowns which is fundamentally wrong

PurpleDino- if there isn't a trace of hardcore, what would you personally call it? Death metal? I'm trying to learn the tricks of the trade with all this genre nonsense :]

This is just indefinable by any one subgenre, there isn't actually much death metal in this album either, if I had to I'd go with progressive metal

Yeah Purpledino, exactly what I was getting at. Bands with breakdowns get labelled "core", while true hardcore punk didn't emphasize breakdowns one fifth as much as metalcore and deathcore bands do.

genres change.

in the 1970's, heavy metal = black sabbath

in the 2010's, heavy metal = periphery or some shit like that.

in the 1970's, pop = ABBA

in the 2010's, pop = Flo Rida or some shit like that.

its the same with hardcore.

I might be wrong here but I'm fairly sure the first "breakdowns" as we know them today come from thrash anyway
