oh look the monthly god of emptiness war has been waged.

It's a fucking masterpiece of a song. I'd go as far to say that only a poser would dislike it.

Death is more so overrated

I want to 5 this so bad but the cheesy clean vocals and production keep me from it.

Maybe to you guys but Morbid Angel is one of my favorite DM bands, MA also contributed more to metal as a whole and have better riffz

Death were 1000 times more important dude. Leprosy was the first album that really got death metal off the ground. Also, have you heard TSoP? Riffs, riffs, and more riffs.

Morbid Angel rules, but to say they were more important to metal than Death is just flat out wrong.

Now that I thought about it I take it back but I just think Morbid Angel deserves their praise.

They def rule, or used to, and we're obviously very important to dm, I'm not disputing that at all so we can agree on that.

Both bands formed in '84. Death clearly had them beat in the demo count, but MA easily beat Death in the riff and songwriting department in the early days. Compare abominations of desolation (highly advanced for '86) to SBG, both recorded around the same time. Also while SBG and Leprosy are landmark records in their own right, neither raised the bar to such a level as Altars did upon its release in '89, single handedly changing the standard for all "extreme metal" to follow, and arguably killing off thrash metal in its wake. MA were also the first to release a dm album on a major label with Covenant, which if I am not mistaken is still the greatest selling dm record of all time. Death had the far more consistent discography though

BOTH bands had huge underground followings even before they ever put out albums and both bands had absolutely massive influence on and still-lasting legacies in the global metal community to this day

The argument could be made for either side really

I could be mistaken but covenant was at least the top dog for quite some time, could have changed by now though
