I'm gonna listen to the album you suggested soon Ars. I love 70s prog, its just ive always been more partial to
metal and punk and all the sub-genres within those.

Zappa's prog is more Jazz than Rock influenced and Jazz isn't a much beloved genre on this site.

Nero gave Crime of the Century a 4.5 so I trust in his prog taste

And Zep's first 6 all have over 2k votes, while Pres and IttOD each has 1k.

DP def is lagging the most of those 3 in terms of votes, but hopefully that'll change over time.

He's so diverse though that I could name a slew of Zappa albums that aren't jazz in the
slightest.

Zoot Allures and We're Only in It for the Money being 2 great examples.

"There are many bands like Uriah Heep, Scorpions, UFO or Budgie that need the same amount of attention yet they're forgotten"

Budgie definitely need more attention. They're like Sabbath meets Rush. So good

I think Scorpions have their share of fame, provided that they are a European band and this is an American site, they are condemned not to have a huge following.

Rory Gallagher is another artist who needs much more attention but his origins and his style of music isn't what the majority of the Sputnikers are looking for.

Well, pretty much every loved 70's band in Sputnik is from Europe, also, people only remembre 80's Scorpions (which were great) but they always forget the Uli Roth era which was epic as hell

if you play Death/Black/Progressive/Thrash/Sludge/Alternative Rock-Metal/Indie/Post-whatever, your chances of fame in Sputnik are high

Yeah, 70's Scorps is generally less remembered than 80's Scorps.

That explains why people rarely talk about Zappa...

unfortunately, this is a worldwide phenomenon, I have the impression that the casual listener would think of

the sails of Charon as a hidden Malmsteen gem

Yeah, it's a shame about 70's Scorpions remaining so unrecognized compared to 80's Scorpions. Tokyo Tapes is no Made in Japan, but nevertheless one of those excellent live albums from the era. Ah, if only Sails of Charon was on it...
