i've jammed nightfall, ancient dreams, and tales of creation. honestly i think nightfall and ancient dreams aren't really consistent, but they do have really strong tracks, like samaritan or ancient dreams tt

i think tales of creation is super consistent though, haven't jammed that album in fucking probably 8 years or something, ho shit time flies

everything after tales of creation i haven't jammed much of because it sounds not-great, it's the fifth-album-syndrome, right. do four good albums, then switch your sound. metallica, mastodon, candlemass. at least countdown to extinction was a good album even if it was far from the aggression of sfsgsw

Nah it's moreso thje case of another 80's metal bands that had no idea what do when the 90's came by.

yeah def jam them. tales of creation has one of the juiciest guitar tones ever, and messiah is at his peak. great riffs, great tracks, and the instrumental is nuts

yeah i need to listen to tales of creation right now.

it makes you wonder how the hell we never heard from Klas Bergwall again. How the hell didn't he record more music...

What exactly happened to make most of this lineup leave the band around the same time?

My guess is that Leif Edling is some kind of control freak but who knows

Nothing serious Run, and no, Leif is not some kind of a control freak. In the album's 25th anniversary, there was a was a special edition relase with Edling's commentary about the recording and everything that happened after the release of the record.

The deal for Bergwall was for one album only. He was hired up because he was a close friend of Leif's and he was asked to help the band when they couldn"t find a permanent member for the role of the lead guitarist. They couldn't delay because the record company had set a deadline for the release of the album. So, when the recordings were over, Bergwall just left.
