I have no quarrel if you dislike them, but to say they're shit is completely different. Went to see them live with some friends, I wasn't really interested and came out of the concert blown away. They put on a fantastic show and they are talented musicians. You can dislike them but they aren't shit.

Okay they aren't shit and there live shows are pretty "fun" but to me they're such watered down sellouts.

Meh, I can understand that, I loved American Idiot and they were a band I've enjoyed for a long time so my opinion of them is biased.

They definitley put a hell of a lot of effort into their albums, like it or not. And their live performances are second to none. Name another pop rock band that plays for 3 hours, pulls people on stage, actually has fun and sounds better than on cd.

ehh all their songs sort of blend together and I can't get over the fact that he uses such boring chords. "Second to none live performance" that is highly debatable, hence my avatar.

Then again, live they need 5-7 guys playing, BJ doesn't play the solo's and for me personally, I paid to see Green Day, not Green Day and 5 kids completely butcher 5 songs. I agree they're great live and my favorite of this past summer out of 11 very different shows (ranging fro Coldplay to Marilyn Manson unfortunately) but they aren't perfect.

BJ does a couple of solo's. He pulls out one in Minority and I know for sure he improvs the know your enemy one.

his solos on 1039/smoothed out slappy hours are actually pretty sick

"Let's be cool and fit in on Sputnik by hating on bands like Green Day who are generally disliked and rated poorly".

I find it so hilarious that they rip off themselves so much in American Eulogy

The major problem with this record is that if you create something as undeniably huge and ambitious as American Idiot then next time you release an album you have to not do the exact same thing with different chords and swapped round lyrics otherwise anyone with a brain will notice.

well, i guess i'm one brain short then, because the lyrics on this albums blew me away, and other than Mass Hysteria being a rip off of Deadbeat Holiday, I don't think the songs from this album sound anything like other GD songs.

as for american idiot being the pinnacle of their career, i have to disagree. according to charts and awards and popularity and shit like that, it probably was the peak moment of their career. according to actual songwriting and musical talent however, this album raises the bar considerably. except for a few weak lyrics (the lines from Last of the American Girls and East Jesus Nowhere that I admit were "what-the-fuck-does-that-mean" moments), the album is flawless.

as to what Green Day will do after this album, i have no idea. 21st century breakdown was such huge monster that I don't know what they could do to follow it, but i genuinely hope they continue on the path that they are on rather than reverting back to AI. i actually listen to 21st century breakdown more than american idiot. shocking i know.

as for the live shows, they are by far the best live band i have ever seen, and if they come back again this summer, i will be making every effort to see them again. i don't think there has ever been a live show like green day's, and i will have the opportunity to compare them to U2 later this year, so maybe i will change my mind after that. but i doubt it.

Dude, I'm the biggest Green Day fanboy on this site (Don't argue! :D )

and even I admit the lyrics are mostly lame on this particular record.

Pretty much. Maybe if they went and made another Dookie I could enjoy them once again. But that's probably not going to happen. So I've given up hope.

*sigh If they kept making dookie, then you would all complain they never grew up.

Naa. I'd just rather that they made another Dookie than another American Idiot/21 century Breakdown.

You wanna hear a bunch of late 30 year olds sing about Masterbation and Girls?

...gross.
