You said you wanted to intelligently discuss music. That means you have to explain your reasoning why you came to the opinion you did. If someone asks you to explain yourself, you explain yourself.
To be quite frank, I think it's very hypocritical that my motives for expressing my dislike of this album have been repeatedly called into question and I have continually had to restate all of my reasons and arguments whereas guys like you and others on this site think you don't have to explain shit.
You can't have an intelligent discussion if you're not prepared to back up your statements. That's what discussion is all about.

The biggest thing you need to work on is to not be so defensive over bands you like. You're going to get a dissenting voice no matter what you say or do. However, by showing composure and intelligence, you can earn a little respect.
If someone is well-spoken and dislikes a band that you're into, try looking into the bands that they listen to. You might be pleasantly surprised with what you find. For example, I've written a couple reviews of some metal bands that I'd say are worth checking out. Tarot, for example, are a straight-up balls of steel power metal band with one of the coolest vocalists ever.
If you widen your perspective and take more bands and genres in, it will really help you. You'll find some you'll hate and some you'll love, but an informed opinion is always better than a shot in the dark. This Message Edited On 11.26.06

ok hows this:
First of all, I would like to apologize first and foremost to mudvaynian for bringing his username into the picture, and also to Steerpike for slandering his good name. I hope to be looked upon in the future as a respectable poster.
As for Metallica, I love Hetfield's vocals; I know a lot of you don't, and I can completely understand. They aren't the most easily accessible vocals by any means. Kirk's guitar playing has been a constant source of inspiration to me over the years. I was about to give up playing, but then I discovered Metallica and it gave me hope. Lars isn't too great of a drummer but I still respect him. He shouldn't be so arrogant though.

Much better. No reasonable person will ever fault you for your taste.
Consider this all water under the bridge.
That said, take some time to go through the metal reviews on the site and acquaint yourself with some of the more prolific posters as well as some new bands. Take your time to settle in.

Yes he can. And if he won't, then I will. Just because you like it doesn't invalidate someone else's rating, so get over yourself.

So yeah, I borrowed this form a friend out of curiosity. It's good, and I'm sure that if I were into metal and stuff that this would rank higher, but the vocals blow and some songs are incredibly identical, at least to me.

Listening to this album again it isn't really that good. Disposable Heroes is easily the greatest song on here in my opinion but other than that a lot of the songs sound similar and it just gets old after a while. But I guess all things do.
