"Verdunkeln didn't really hit home with me but Alexander praises them so I'll give them another try soon."
Well, it's a bit different with the stuff they have going on with the effects on one guitar and the clear vocs might be offputting. If you want something more in the vein of Graupel/older TRoB you might wanna try Truppensturm. You could also try Inarborat, older Geist or Imperium Dekadenz.

I like weird effects, I only gave it one listen and it didn't give me any lasting impression, I guess I just wasn't in the right mood. Thanks for the other stuff, will try Truppensturm.

"I only gave it one listen and it didn't give me any lasting impression"
Yeah, if don't like an album the first time WHY LISTEN TO IT AGAIN RIGHT?
|
| |
dont understand not liking this album, its one of the best bm albums ever if not the best
|
| |
"Yeah, if don't like an album the first time WHY LISTEN TO IT AGAIN RIGHT?"
Exactly, that's why I said I will listen to it again.

fag
(because you like radiohead)

It's got a weird atmosphere surrounding it, that's for sure.

'You always have to go full throttle with being serious, huh?'
Hmm yeah
I went a little overboard there
I apologise

"dont understand not liking this album, its one of the best bm albums ever if not the best"
lol, sputnikhyperbole.com
|
| |
yes this website is the only place this album is ridiculously overrated
|
| |
Freezing Moon might be my fav bm track ever
I don't see why this is so 'overrated' tho
not only is this one of the most influential BM albums, but it also features one of the genre's most
interesting vocalists
|
| |
Because basically shittons of people are dickriding this album into infinity like it's the holy grail of BM, which it is most definitely not.
"not only is this one of the most influential BM albums,"
Influential, yes. Very influential, yes. Most influential, lolwut..
|
| |
its not the holy grail of bm, but it does represent everything that bm is about lyrically and thematically, and production wise it sounds more genuinely evil than most bm i can think of

I like his vocals on Sunn O))) songs more than this, honestly.
|
| |
His vocals on Black One are amazing yeah
|
| |
"but it does represent everything that bm is about lyrically and thematically"
Not anymore. The times when BM is was dimensional is over and I know that maybe someone will chime in here to go all traditionalist dickriding but the fact is BM is about what the artists choose. And things have split up, so yeah. Also, a shitload of people who listen to metal don't really give a fuck, let alone take them seriously.

i've already said i'm not going to rate something highly just for its legacy, i'll rate it based on enjoyment and this album gives me none that other norweigan bands in the same time frame can't give me in infinitely more impressive standards
|
| |
Well, what Noctus said also adds to it.
|
| |
i dont consider this album classic based on cultural impact, impact means nothing to me musically. the album itself is fairly unique and fucked up, and all of the interesting and dark incidents surrounding the band during this era really shine through in the music and give it a genuinely evil and misanthropic sound that i really dont hear in most bm
