I would buy that so fucking quick.

Still have a really fond memory of getting this in the mail on vinyl like three days before its actual release date and that transition from Acid Hologram to Doomed Used nearly gave me a heart attack. I thought my record was beyond fucked lmao

I like this album quite a bit though, aside from Ohms, I’d say it’s my least listened to tones album. That has to do with them being their latest albums, but also because I don’t think either are as strong as other Deftones albums.

'They seem completely uninterested in anything to do with this record unfortunately'

Might be Steph's influence, tbh. He was never fond of the album.

This would be one of their best albums if not for the completely incompetent production.

Distinctly remember conversations on here around how this was going to be a return to SNW's sound purely because Chino had put on weight again. I love the concept of Chino's weight being a weathervane for the band's sound.

I like this album a lot, the production never bothered me as much as most. I'll likely see them next year and it's a shame they won't play any of it.

Ohms is a proper 12 stone record, lean and nimble but still enough weight to throw around.

Gore is hazy by design, not error. What you all feel as "bad sound" is just unresolved self; it's too transparent for people who need impact to feel. A remaster would only expose this further.

Gore has plenty of impact. On the guitar, and only the guitar, with nothing to balance it out. That's all it has going for it, sporadic bursts of impact, but without any proper quiet/loud balancing to the songwriting that they usually juggle with finesse. Hazy isn't a bad thing, not knowing where to go through the haze is.

There's about 3-4 viable remasters floating around right now. I'd say the best is the one that declips + bolsters the drum sound, but unfortunately it guts the poignant guitar tone on the title track.

Ultimately "Gore needs a remix/remaster" is a roundabout way to cope with the fact the material just isn't as good as what came before and after. You can hear and judge the compositions fine as-is, every note of every instrument and the way they mesh is clear enough to do so, even if it doesn't sound perfect. Chino's voice and stanzas are drawn out, stretched thin, and forced in a way that doesn't suit him, in order to fit music that doesn't suit the band. Nothing, not even a full re-recording with the best early 2000s studio production $4,000,000 can buy, will rectify that. You guys are looking for an alternate universe Gore with completely different songs that share the same motifs, not a remaster.

Still decent.

Im not gonna try to speak for everyone but that’s absolutely not the case for me, the production on a lot of these tracks is fucking horrendous, still a lot of great songs.

Xenon and Pittura are the only duds here for me. Everything else imo is up to their usual standard with Phantom Bride, Geometric Headdress, Rubicon, and Hearts / Wires being up there with their best. I adore a lot of this album but if it were mixed like Ohms or even Koi and Diamond Eyes I possibly would’ve fived it. Get Terry Date on the boards for a remaster in between album cycles.

On Private Music, tbh I’m a little disappointed they went back to Nick. His style suited KNY and DE but goddamn the production on Ohms was fucking perfect imo. It sounded raw when it needed to, it sounded pristine when it needed to, I’d honestly go so far to say that it is the best sounding Deftones record ever.
