Title track grew for me quite a lot over the past few days tho. Overall the album is a masterpiece smh

Damn I legit think that I won't have time to jam FI today ... Bring on Saturday!

About to start 7empest and Maynard is definitely not trying.

7empest is the best song on FI for my money though. They definitely reserved the best for last.

Descending is the best agreed

Once the "sound the dread alarm" section in Descending starts, that's the most hype moment on the album.

Wonder how the setlist will look. Playing just a few of these songs will take up a large percentage of the show, especially if they play 7empest. Maybe they should just play the album in full.

Don't be too hopeful. It's just an ambience piece that was used for the video audio on the special edition.
Yeah I found a link on r/toolband. Definitely more of a seque/background atmospheric track, but it was good shit.

Having listened to the new album two times now I can say that I definitely like it, but I also sorta feel that the fact that I like it has more to do with me being partial to Tool's sound than it has to do with the quality of the songwriting. I love 7empest and I like Descending a whole lot as well, but in a lot of songs I feel like I'm waiting for those known payoff moments of "Tool heaviness" and that they're definitely building up to those moments, but when those moments arrive I feel like they're holding back.

Jammed back to back, digital version so (yay) interludes.
I am with Thal on this. I feel they have opted for a lot of safe choices, specially Maynard. Aside from 7empest, the bilis is gone, it's all cryptic and opaque now, no rage, no fire. Same with the music, some riffs are straight out laughable while some other parts are quite impressive.
Now the descend starts down this album, for a while, to see how it unfolds and where does it take me, but this is the aftertaste of a first contact, for posterity.

I like the chill sound and I don't think Tool needs to be even remotely heavy to be good. A lot of their best songs like Disposition and Reflection are p chill
That being said, it's a pretty by-the-books Tool album with sort of aimless songwriting.
I kind of like how loose it sounds though. It's a good album for lo-fi beats (to study or relax to)
