Half of it is fear of having a beloved album burn out on me and the other half is just continuing to listen to new music and a hectic schedule so I rarely have time for my actual favourites

fear of having a beloved album burn out on me
This is mostly it for me. I have a long queue of music to listen, but I’m in no rush. I tend to give myself time to digest a new album to the point where it starts to wear on me. Sometimes it’s a week, sometimes a month. But I stop just as I’m starting to get a little burnt out and move to the next band/album on the queue. Doing it this way ensures that I don’t burn anything out and can always return to albums I love without getting spaced out/bored.

Now I get why Maynard held himself a bit for FI.

"instead of just jamming it constantly and being done with it in a month"
I rarely jam any album twice a day tbh. And doing it even more than twice a day just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Ahh there it is haha. Tnx Ashtiel. Tbh I don't really care about these particular ratings, half of them will be troll votes and first listen votes anyway. Tool albums have always needed some time to grow.

So many spiteful soundoffs for the new album lol. Gotta wonder why people who already know they don't like Tool would bother to download it early and spend an hour and a half of their time listening to it.

I'm not a huge Tool fan, I heard them on the radio a lot and I saw them live twice but I never sat down with an album by then and listened through. After their stuff was put on streaming I listened to all of it. I get why Aenima and Lateralus are held in such high regard. They are transcendent masterpieces, defining releases of prog. Undertow is too old school for me and 10,000 days is interesting with some big highlights but overall leaves me unsatisfied (I understand how many listens and drugs can change this... lol)
As for the new album. I'll still give it a couple more listens with the interlude tracks. But after 4 listens, Invincible and 7empest are really good, and Pneuma is good too but just seems like a weaker version of what they've done before. Other than that I don't get much out of it. Seems very tame and low energy. I didn't have expectations, but was still hoping for more. However, if die hard Tool fans are happy I'm glad for them, if they are honest with themselves and are pleased than that's awesome.

Premature judgement of the day: 7empest is on the fast track to top 5 Tool songs.

@Asdfp277 most fans seem to be digging the album from what I've seen.

@Dmax28. I consider myself pretty much a die-hard Tool fan. Listened to them first right when Lateralus came out in 2001, when I was 11. Since I was 16 there has not been a new Tool album. I turn 30 this week, so that's basically half my life. When a wait gets this long, and the hype this big, it get's to the point where it is impossible to actually live up to it all. I think the fans are very happy about this record, because for the most part it didn't disappoint, which seemed pretty impossible for us from the get go. Where this falls in the long run I have no idea, but for now I'm just very happy they didn't f*ck it up.
