just listened yesterday for the first time, man it's not bad but also not nearly as good as I was hoping. I just didn't connect with this like I thought I would

takes time. i think this was like the last or second last btmi album that i clicked with, but ironically one of the first i heard.

also ironic that this seems like their least inaccessible album on the surface (cuz its just like straight vocals-guitar-bass-drums instrumentation in a no-frills indie-punk style, unlike their early stuff which is a fuckin lo-fi mash of crazy synths and ska and hardcore), yet it's not a particularly immediate record. the songwriting is fairly subtle.

scrambles is like Vacation or Adults!!! on crack. anyways yeah, once you notice every intricacy of this record after multiple listens, and when you hear + understand every lyric, it becomes an ez 5

scrambles is like Vacation or Adults!!! on crack.

stylistically yes that's obvious but Scrambles is a lot more accessible than Vacation when you think about it beyond just style. like Scrambles has catchier choruses than Vacation; the melodies are more prominent, poppy and palatable; the vocals are further up front / clearer in the mix; the production is cleaner; the instrumentation is really bright and exuberant and jumps out at ya.
