They definitely ripped from Peter Gabriel’s Rhythm of the Heat

I love Genesis but if you think they solely own the note of an open D string I don't know what to do with such a silly goose.

I mean technically every band ever is a Genesis ripoff cause they’re so old

I was this close to agree that Tool copied Genesis, but then I remember Genesis are British and we know too well nobody ever cared about them so nevermind. Still sucks that Johnny hasn't reviewed Junko - Communication yet...

The funny thing about thing Tool's music is that both the good bits and boring bits are performed as though they could go on for ever (which - in fact - is almost often the case!), and in the illusion of eternity that they thereby create, there is a secondary illusion that good and evil songwriting is interchangeable, with the performance as the one only constant. I think it is genius. They can have inspirational songs and horrible songs and no body can ever know the difference for they all sound the same. ""Fans"" will nod along pretending to observe the difference, but they are only playing tribute to the fleece above their heads. It is boring but fantastic.
