@kalk, this album is 100% prog. Between the songs flowing into one another, the high concepts driving the whole album, long extended guitar solos, it fits the mold pretty well. Hell, the fact that it used a ton of (at the time) new techniques in the making of this album makes it prog, it was literally progressing what was possible in rock music

Yea, I am not a fan of this distinction. But I see value in criticizing the tendency to make music seem deep and emotional through excessive overproduction. A personal gripe I have with many inconsistent exceptions hahaha
And true, I guess early on prog meant something different than it does now. Retro Prog is such an oxymoron and yet it has utility and makes sense. I don't think you can progress this kind of music that much anymore, except when there should be some technological innovation
