through silver is a very dense album, could not get into it at all at first

Neurosis, Converge, Isis, and a lot of other favorite bands of mine took me a looooong time to click with.

Incredibly pleasant surprise

"I would also put Enemy of the Sun on there, but I seem to be one of the few people who thinks that album is one of their best."
Nah man, I'm right there with you. That legitimately has some of the scariest moments I've heard in music in ANY genre. I revisit that one a lot.
Through Silver In Blood
Times of Grace
Eye of Every Storm
A Sun That Never Sets
Enemy of the Sun
Souls at Zero
That's my ranking for the essential Neurosis albums - they're all 5/5s for me, one of like just a handful of bands where I have this many perfect rankings for
This album is also in that ranking (which I NEVER thought would happen again), I just don't know where yet exactly because it's so new and I've basically been jerking off to this band for like 25 years now

Fuck yeah.

I wasn’t ranking them, I was ranking accessibility (which is impossible in a way cos depends on one’s experience / perspective lol - but this question was asked so many times I wanted to add my perspective)
erm, but yeah newbies should just ignore everyone who says listen to everything all at once (unless you’re insane) and / or actually recommending Fires / Honor (or Pain) and we’re good

Ah, I see. I'd personally say Souls At Zero would have been a great place to start for myself, but I'm not sure what would be more accessible for other people. The ambience stuff would have thrown me off if I listened to that straight off the bat

feel like I don't like this as much as Eye of Every Storm, yet
kinda surprised by the ratings this is getting. I like it but it's not knocking me over.
to be fair I have not listened to metal in a long time. I'm just trying to fit in!

I'd say I'm with you ^ teetering between 4 and 4.5 but settled on 4 atm
it's awesome and has a ton of stunning moments, but it also has quite a few moments that I feel aren't quite as quality as the rest
but still, awesome record especially at this point in time and given the situation within

I enjoyed the heck out of this on first listen. Agreed that the runtime doesn't feel like a full hour (plus) once you get into the groove of it.

I need more listens to wrap my head around this but I'm pretty sure I like this a lot already.

I mean they're my second favorite band of all time, so I'm definitely bias as fuck but this is like the best thing I've heard in years

Aaron Turner joining Neurosis gotta be one of the biggest moves in the history of metal. It's just too good to be true, yet here we are. Both Neurosis and Isis are two of my fav bands of all-time too so... :_)
PS: Jesus man this rips so hard. A 5 is incoming. Best thing I've heard in a long time

It's a strong contender for me but we'll have to see how the new Nickelback is.

BTW, gotta love how sincere this album is, most "comebacks" feel phoned in, this one certainly isn't.
