i mean a 3.9 isn't the worst thing in the world. It could be RYM dropping this below Greyview because it got #1 on the 2023 charts this week lol

Ben era's nice, but I end up preferring the instrumental versions of those albums. This one's elevated by Marcus to me.

I listened to all of their stuff this week and don't understand big swings in opinions on their sound over time, unless you're basing your stance purely on vocals. They have a pretty consistent sound overall, some expansion into more vibey stuff on the more recent works but that element has always been there to some extent. How people can say Stillworld is great and this is a huge disappointment doesn't really make sense to me.

Unpopular take... I actually like Marcus over Adrian. I LOVED Marcus's version of Aspire on the Node Deluxe Edition. It's one of my favorite all time Northlane tracks. I prefer Marcus over Ben. That said, Stillworld is still a 4.5 to me while this is a 4.0 for memorable tracks and replayability alone. After six years I still listen to Stillworld weekly. Hard to quantify that.

That cannot be me in the slightest lmao I HATE Marcus's version of Aspire because that song means so much to me
@Durrzo I left a comment on the Everchanger thread going over my thoughts of the different "eras" of this band if you want some insight

I agree with most of that. I just don't particularly miss the lead style from the earlier albums. Enjoyed them for sure but feel like the trade for atmosphere was a fair one, but as I've mentioned I'm really big on that kind of stuff, I'll take mood over technicality pretty much every time.

Yea that's fair, like it's not a huge shift but it's there and pretty noticeable. Like I said tho I like the stuff with Marcus a lot too lol. I also don't really understand big opinion swings for the new stuff

as I said in my list thingy I see this as depressive metalcore and as such I find it cumbersome to listen to at times, though is well done

@Tundra: I agree with your description of it but that's exactly how I like it. I wonder what you think of Devil Sold His Soul.

I used to dislike WaW because it was so vanilla but now I realize it’s fresh vanilla bean 🤌🏻
