"heavily overproduced and so whiny"
They're definitely overproduced, but whiny? I don't hear it, like at all.

My ex roommate used to play a lot of bands that sounded exactly like this. Idk what it is, but I feel like a ton of vocalists in the genre sound just like this guy and it all bleeds together for me after a while

I don't even get the "whiny" complaints half the time, what, do you want these vocalists to be stoic shells or pseudo-"operatic" flexers ala Dickinson or Halford? lol

Def wouldn't characterize it as whiny tho

Perhaps because there were too many cleans that stole the show during 2010s. Instead, I thought the "shitty" cleans on this one were pretty okay which didn't overshadow the screams and instruments.

"I think it's just a completely different vibe they're going for than what you probably want,"
This is pretty accurate i think in my case, i can tolerate the cleans now but am not a fan of the style. reach beyond the sun was emotive as fuck with no cleans and i just prefer that kind of style way more

The two records after being signed to Pure Noise do have an 'industry standard' feel when it comes to production. Some ppl may not like it, but it must be admitted that many ears are used to this "industry standardisation". They would be considered well-made most of the time.
My personal opinion: Nothing Left To Love's production is kind of a facelift for the band. same producer on this one

"hasn't will putney produced all their cds though? i thought he did hell&home for sure"
oh gosh, really, since H&H all the records were produced by Will Putney. but what would make me think that apart from NLTL and this new one, all the other records have their own style of production, if not completely different? Then I can't explain it. Sorry for the incorrect information.

There are only two bands that could just chug for an entire album and I would never tire of it. Meshuggah and counterparts. And they are very different bands.
