Idk what you’re saying, and this goes without saying, but bands like this wouldn’t exist without Dillinger.
I miss them : (

I think we are at a point where metalcore is strong enough with its new class, even though having so few old-school acts still truckin' is sad.
They went out on their own terms and on top-level material, so at least there's that.

And everything you said mars, I will legitimately cry when Converge calls it quits. Dillinger and ETID really stung, but Converge? that’s gonna be a knife to the heart for me
I know they’re pretty old (by hardcore standards at least), but they’ve been my favorite band for like a decade now. I already got two Converge tats and honestly plan on getting more.
The heart of what I’m saying is when bands like this break up it’s like losing a fucking limb.

Converge gives me the impression they'll keep trucking until they're physically unable. They still release music and do reprints and show and whatnot and seem to still be up to toying with their sound.
That, and I don't think they have the level of behind the scenes drama that undid Dillinger.

I really would’ve said the same thing about ETID tho.
Having said that, I’m pretty sure all the guys in Converge are sober, which I think was a big rift in ETID

Well iirc Jacob is pretty hardcore straight edge, not sure about everyone else.

they’re all almost (if not already) 50 man. I’m literally half that age and I feel like my body is giving it out on me.
We don’t have much time left.
Swear to god I’m seeing them every chance I get. I’ve made two 4 hour drives in the last year to catch them live.

dillinger had behind the scenes drama?
im guessing that was to do with ben and greg being pretty different people

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s what Greg said One of Us Is The Killer is about basically

"dillinger had behind the scenes drama?"
From what I recall, there was definitely some tension that led to the band deciding to call it quits. Greg has written and talked about it before.

think the difference between converge vs. etid/dillinger is all four guys have other cool/profitable things going on besides converge... whether it be jacob with deathwish, kurt and his producing ventures, nate playing in cave in now, koller playing drums for whoever he wants at this point. like if they feel they need to take a break from converge they very easily can and still be fine financially whereas dillinger and especially etid pretty much had to continuously record and tour to stay afloat
also as kinda alluded to earlier etid/dillinger members def had alcohol/substance abuse issues that contributed to their breakups whereas converge i guess just doesn't partake in those practices?
also i think converge is far more inclined to adapt their sound as their shows as they age (as we saw with bloodmoon)... but i def recall both greg and ben saying how they were too "old" to do dillinger anymore

"I don’t really hear it Alex and I’m a massive Waking the Fallen fan."
ooo man the clean guitars on that track sound exactly like something synyster woulda wrote (reminds me a ton of "and all things will end" in particular). there's one particular lick at the beginning that i swear to god i've heard in an a7x song but can't put my finger on, and considering the other intentional references to other bands they've tweeted about i feel like i might actually not be crazy.
also the sorta patriotic sounding lead guitar/vocal layered melody at the beginning, and the steady double bass in the heavy verses, and the chorus with the big octave chords, and then that solooooo omg. its the best song they never wrote.
feel like they could achieve modern-turnstile level popularity if they leaned that direction on the next album (not that i really want them to though)
