Sounds like Nate fucking around in the studio and they just kept it in for funsies but it could very well be a martial arts sample or some weird shit 🤣
So many curveballs on here and I love it. Only song that somewhat resembles their WIITB style is A Piece of Mind and tbh that one is probably my favorite.

weird how this album can be so visceral while the album before it seems so vanilla to me

I just can’t imagine how demoralizing it must’ve been to write and record this masterpiece, only to see it completely flop in the mainstream. Their label at the time fumbled the bag so hard. Again, Miro would’ve been a GREAT lead single

Wonder what this sput avg would be without the WIITB pre-bias

worst thing about this album is the cover art imo

Anyways, glad we converted Jay to the church of finch. Tbh it’s one of maybe 2-3 albums I’ve ever heard that I will undoubtedly say is a hidden masterpiece. Might gain some popularity in the coming years tho

interesting can mean something or interesting can mean nothing. so yeah, interesting.

Didn't they break up because this album flopped so hard?
|
| |
not sure the album can be blamed solely for the flop. public taste and industry support def questionable.

Long story short yeah. My very vague understanding is that Nate wanted to push the creativity sound from this album (see his released finch demo songs), but the majority of the band wanted to cash in on the mainstream sound
Not pointing fingers I get both points of view

I’m telling you, bitemarks and bloodstains was a failure lead single at the time lol. I remember mtv trying to push it after what it is to burn, and it flopped
Not the only factor but it didn’t help

Maybe a rough time for post hxc, but a better time for literally everything else. God I miss it.

The “post hardcore” genre tag is way too broad after that era
|
| |
well labels were scooping up bands right and left hoping for singles and public taste seemed to be going away from radio emo

Btw I highly recommend that album if you’re a fan of this. One of the few other “classics” from that genre
