ETID is much more of a 0.5 than this tbf
shame that isn't an option

Lol this sounds like Converge is going down the Opeth career arc, essentially transitioning into a post- version of themselves. I do like it on first listen. Lord of Liars is very cool.

converge sounds like they're absolutely submitted to chelsea here and i'm not sure this is necessarily a good album for chelsea's standards either
despite of a few nice moments here and there this is just a huge disappointment for me
a dewinged 5 review was a given though lol

Sput anti hype is too funny. This is prolly more like a 3.5 but it has enough brodsky action for me to slap the 4 on it

Needed more old Converge riffing in here, but I also need more listens to see where it goes
|

This was very very moody but it also melded the riffage and the harsh vocals in cleverly ! def enjoyed it, glad my skepticism was unfounded

This is better that I though but worst than TDIS, by far. Could save 2-3 tracks.

I would love a Darkest Hour and Epica crossover, that would be an amazing album.

Crimson Stone might be my song of the year. It’s absolutely staggering.
The weak link here and on most Converge albums is Bannon. My favorite converge songs always expand past their hardcore palette (ie Eve, Wretched World, etc) and so this album scratches that itch. It’s album of the year material even with Bannon detracting, imo.

Am I alone in thinking Bannon sounds perfectly fine?
He’s obviously the weakest singer (including Nate) but his screams are still great and his cleans are better than they’ve ever been.

Agreed. I don’t mind his cleans honestly

I know what I’m getting with Bannon so it’s not like I dislike his screaming or even his clean vocals. I just don’t think they are actually necessary for this project. I prefer Nate’s screams anyway.

I generally like Bannon's cleans, especially on his latest WYW release, Rust on the Gates of Heaven. Yes, his voice is imperfect and wavers at times, but it's part of the appeal. (I thought they were too weak on his first WYW album, however. It seems like he improved and gained some confidence since then)

His cleans are my least fave thing about this entire project but I wouldn't say they're off-putting levels of bad, just kind of underwhelming.

Big fan of both Converge and Wolfe but I'm liking this more than loving it. The Converge-ier tracks are the highlight for me. The bar is pretty high for both acts but this feels like they've both had to compromise some of their strengths to meet in the middle. Still enjoying it tho
