Loving Sowing's metal rates this year. I feel like we broke him...but in a good way.

I'm afraid of disappointing you with my year end list now
Anything sub-4.5 might not even make the list. It's been such a good year / I'm so easy to please that any 4s on the list will be selective
But right now we're easily looking at this, Dvne, Between the Buried & Me, Esoctrilihum, and Deafheaven really without any questions even being asked - which is 5 more metal artists than would normally show up on my list. Also a chance of a few of them aforementioned 4s sprinkled in here and there, as well as any possible future strong releases during the month of November/ early December.

The "double album marketing" is not enough to convince me that Mastodon are confident of themselves and their ability to write exciting music anymore.
I believe there is a great 5 song EP among these overblown discharge of mastodonisms.

Change doesn't happen in one night, Johnny. Think of this like a Pretty Woman scenario.
"Sowing enjoying Esoctrilihum was not on my sputnik bingo card"
I don't think they even print those cards

Had it All to Eyes of Serpents is my fave run here, and its amazing. Maybe toptier Don runs for me.

''Sickle and Peace'' to ''Peace and Tranquility'' though... They even have matching song titles.

The "run" considers all tracks in between. But yeah I love them all. Just sharing my fave section here

Gotcha D, yeah that's a great chunk out of the album, really glad they saved it for a strong ending. I wasn't sure how they would be able to keep the album fresh with 15 songs but they did it

Those descending pinched harmonics at the start of the solo on Had it All gives me Gojira vibes and it turns a v good ballad into a badass of a song.

Definitely their best since CtS, still loving Pain with an Anchor way too much.
