Crazy how Sunbather broke the internet 8 years ago, even Pitchfork gave it a good score and BNM.

The beginning of Other Language is an album highlight for me, the end was a let down though, sounding like something rehashed from OCHL.

Thom Jurek is my favorite music critic/reviewer, and I disagree with him a lot haha - once you realize how hard he fanboy’s certain key artists and cultural movements, you start to get a feel for a lot of what his words are relating to. Consistency in a critic is useful and nourishing…but consistency isn’t synonymous with clarity either…
Anyone hating on Fantano (or someone local like Sowing for that matter…), isn’t expressing much outside their own lack of energy put into something lol

Consistency means predictable, and there's very little value of that to me when it comes to reading a review from a critic.

Flooded with raining. Levees are breaking. Houses are bursting. Sisters are sleeping.

Does anyone else find it strange how abruptly Mombasa ends?
|
| |
Yeah definitely lol. Much as I don't really appreciate the second half, I do appreciate that they concertedly tackled it as an Epic Finish but still made an effort to keep it succinct, but I feel an extra minute of cushioning ambience wouldn't hurt. It earns a fadeout

I think it's just a tad off putting how abruptly Mombasa ends. I would've preferred for that chord to ring out into a fade like it was headed towards. That said, it's fine. The song is so good, I can overlook it.
Album's incredible. Just waiting for Other Language to fully click with me. Can't even bring myself to listen to BTBAM right now. Way too much going on stylistically compared to this.

i kinda appreciate how abruptly Mombasa ends, feels like blissful disintegration into the ether which suits the album's artwork

The best wolves in the throne room in ages, the best btbam since colors, and this... Insane how many good metal albums are being released back to back rn. Still need to hear this all the way through, only heard like 10 mins and wasn't blown away

I'm gonna listen to this in full now. I think we can all agree I'm a much more reputable critic than Johnny boy, so it's safe to say my word is pretty much law. Stay tuned to find out if this is actually good or overblown

"i kinda appreciate how abruptly Mombasa ends, feels like blissful disintegration into the ether which suits the album's artwork"
Like the guys on the previous page said, some cushioning ambience leading into a fade outro on that last chord would have been a better decision imo. Blissful disintegration into the ether is a lovely description tho I must say haha. The abrupt ending is kinda cool tho, leaves you to process what you've just heard and say "wow they really went out with a fucking bang."
