But... but the sound of Ecailles and Le Secret was already perfect

I think I'm with Ben on this. This is decent but it feels less magical than Ecailles or even Kodama

I get the lack of Ecailles' magic but it doesn't bother me as much cause other things compensate for it. When I feel like bathing in moonlight I definitely reach for Ecailles!

I think Kodama and Ecailles are still my favorites, but I can't remember what I rated them lol

In the case of the former, they were already starting to exhaust this sound on les voyages de l'âme, with Shelter and Kodama both being efforts to expand and show different sides of the band's sound. And to me at least, this feels like the natural evolution of the style that they brought to the table with Kodama. They are all damn near perfect albums which all offer their own set of unique characteristics and atmospheres, and even Alcest's low points (which are souvenirs and voyages for me), are still very enjoyable and solid records.

This album is just pure magic for me, though Kodama is practically the same way.

@beefshoes sure. I don't necessarily disagree with any of that. I wouldn't want them to re-do any of their older albums or anything.

I still feel like this is a bit lacking, tho. It doesn't *feel* as good to listen to.

I'd like to see myself as an Alcest authority given my status as a complete fanboy, so I can take that with some pride m/

I mean the "magic" has been removed in favor of a pure post-black sound. I love this.
