Coltrane is next, I always loved jazz but never took the time to really sit and listen to the classics

This isn’t my fave Davis but it was an an early hitter and a brilliant introduction, no doubt

Definitely prefer Coltrane (not close currently), but I have a lot more obvious blank spaces in Davis’s repertoire that I need to address

Yeah I dove into A Love Supreme and was floored, the man is crazy versatile. I'm going to have to dive a lot further into both's discogs before I start making declarative statements. As of now I think Coltrane's exuberance resonates with me more

I love what I've heard from Davis, especially this, but Coltrane is on another level for me personally.

Miles has some incredible technical achievements and is responsible for pushing a lot of boundaries, to say nothing of his number of (nearly) flawless albums. But Coltrane’s music was always more moving, more emotional for me. Especially once he started to blend his spiritual jazz and free jazz toward the end of his career. His music was so intimate, and so…ephemeral? You felt like you were hearing something you’d never hear the exact same way again.

Both amazing and extremely accomplished jazz juggernauts, obviously, but I also prefer Coltrane by a fair margin. In fact there are probably a few other jazz artists I’d rank above Davis from a wholly personal standpoint, too. Ornette Coleman for sure, maybe Charles Mingus, Albert Ayler…Anthony Braxton? Idk I’d have to think harder about it.
