3, 4, 6 are all top tier for me. I’d say all are equally dense and rewarding. It’s extremely hard to pinpoint what might be the most accessible entry point, as this band in general doesn’t waver from the fully crushing cathartic thing at all in their discography. If you’ve spent some time with Neurosis you might want to jam 5 because the track Nowena features Scott Kelly on vocals and that could be a nice guiding light for you.

5 is better than 6. Noobs bum 6 but children of the eye isn't great and and A solitary reign is the most overrated song in their catalogue. There's almost a pre and post solitary reign amenra now which the new lead single continued. 4 doesn't have a weak link. 3 has probably the best 3 track run in their discog but then 'le fils...' the last track isn't as great. they all rule and are separated by little things.

Yikes. Band has nothing at all that can realistically be considered overrated.

Solitary reign helped people 'get it' who otherwise didnt get it or rate it or whatever. Its the most accsessible thing they ever wrote and it brought the hordes of more 'mainstreamy' type 'metal'fans onboard. All good, whatever but The Amenra groups online turned into this sudden constant oneupmanship of who can take the most fking IRRELEVANT photos and put and black and white filter on and tag 'CHURCHOFRA" or which songs make them cry the most. Honestly. The tattoo pics on their FB went crazy all after 6. The audience changed. I guess this is what happens as bands get more well knows and theres usually a 'hit' behind that. Solitary reign was their home run. As much as it can be for this type of music. As a MASSIVE elitist and someone whos been a fan literally 15 years, and seen them over 30 times I hate that song because of all of the above as well as the fact I dont like it musically and think its massively overrated next to a plethora of beter songs that exhibit the same emotions people got over the top about in that single track. I wouldnt put it in there top 10 songs. Ive also told them all this. Which is what worries me with the upcoming record, especially that cresendo par of the lead single. The second one was dope. Only Neurosis and Amenra do I really have this level of criticism because, for me, their bar is so fking high.
Well see soon enough.
also
3 has 3 goat tracks and one ok
4 has 5 1/2 goat tracks (clear winner)
5 has 4 goat tracks incuded 'Dearborn' which is underated af
6 has two goat tracks. 'Diaken' Up there with anything theyve done
1 and 2 has Ritual, From Birth to grave and dance of the dead

My only issue with this band so far, in (admittedly) scattered listens, is that the albums seem pretty similar to me.
And so do the songs.
I mean I fuckin' dig it, but I'd knock a lot of other acts for that.

aye thats a common complaint. I dont think its any way true but I do understand where that comes from. They have their formula. The good/bad, Light/Dark, Black/White aesthetic in their art/visuals. Life/death etc etc The Opposites. And so the Post metal-esque Heavy riffss/clean section/heavy riffs reflects that. its not supposed to be super varied. Its a journey and a purge. Almost trance like, beaten over the head repeatedly, Let rest for a lil while to breathe and repeat the beating until you give in and spew all your demons out. You wouldnt believe how many people Ive met over the last say 6/7 years at Amenra shows who have horrendous stories who got saved by the cathartic element of the band. Shits crazy honestly. I think they did change slightly on this and by the sounds of it the next but generally if its not broke dont fix it right? Its doing its job.

I respect the passion and fandom. With this band and Neurosis I personally have zero interest pulling out single tracks from the complete album experience and judging or criticizing them in that context. Do you, it’s a fucking Internet forum after all. But A Solitary Reign to me slides right into place so fucking majestically. I am probably one of those people you are referring to who “got it” at that moment, cause 6 was the first I tried. That first go through was one of my all time music listening experiences though.

Yeah I get that. That's probably cos you've never seen them live. I've seen them over 30 times so seeing how separate songs from each mass fits into the live experience allows you to separate the from their place and how they fit soley on the record. Also pointing out weaker/stronger tracks on a record is just obvious when you've listened to them a million times.

Here’s my story on that - I missed them opening for Yob (I know, it’s a lifelong shame now). After the show on a total whim, and drunk as fuck, grabbed Mass VI on vinyl from their merch table and stared at that album cover the whole cab ride home. Threw it on when I got home and just totally lost my shit into the night. Played it twice through.
