Gotta agree with trantalocked. Br00tality is good when it's counterbalanced with melody. Too much monochromatic crooning also gets old too.

i probably wouldn't mind this if i hadn't seen them live and watched the guy sing along with backing tracks (and i don't just mean harmonies, there was a backing track for the main vocals). it was like going to a rap concert

I wonder if bands enjoy playing live to a metronome. It seems like it would be pretty annoying.

Their bassist is the most annoying member. His backwards headbang is retarded.

just saw them
they dont play to a metronome
dont know what kind of fuccboi show you were at emyay, but at mine not only was the backing track used sparingly but he sang Nocturne acapella

With all the overdubs and pre-recorded tracks they use it would be impossible to perform without a clicktrack.

Koffiiing, were you at the Edmonton show?
Ignore the guy above. They were amazing live. No lead vocals were pre-recorded, just a lot of layered harmonies, and they were never overbearing.
I saw a video of Ashe when he first joined and he looked sort of awkward, but last night he had a ton of energy and great stage presence. They also played a lot of older material which was AMAZING, and Ashe was able to flawlessly fill in for Dan there.
I always thought these guys would be iffy live because of all the detail and atmosphere in their songs, but they work very well live & very loud as well. Great show.

'if they need one then the drummer sucks ass'
Tell that to Matt Halpern. If anything playing to a metronome makes you a better drummer and is needed when you have Midi going off in the background. No drummer is perfectly in time.

^This
Live music is generally organic and there is no such thing as a drummer playing at EXACTLY xyz bpm, which is what is needed when you have prerecorded stuff as part of your music. I'm not saying it's inherently good or bad, it just is what it is.

i went to both hollywood and san francisco(ashe's first stage dive), shit was dope
and while the above is true, jay is extremely tight and seems to just play along to the song raw

reasons why this band puts on a terrible live show (imo):
1. the bassist - This guy just grosses me out. Not really much else I can say. I'm all for energy on the stage, but he needs to do less.
2. the vocals - the guy was singing along with a backing track, and doing a poor job at that. it was like watching someone struggle through singing a song on rock band.
3. mixing of backing tracks - i understand that in the studio the band has a lot of different things going on from an atmospheric standpoint. i totally understand the use of backing tracks live in order to simulate that same experience. the problem is that they're just too loud in the mix and they overbear the rest of the band. whether it is true or not, i get a strong sense that i'm watching a band 'mime' their performance. anytime that i get that feeling, the concert is essentially ruined for me. i need some sort of organic element to the performance, otherwise my enjoyment is going to rely solely on the visual aspect of the performance (see 1.) and how much i like the band in the studio (i find them to be in the 2.5-3.5 range consistently)
