My favourite Katatonia is the six album run from Fair Deal to Fall of Hearts
I think you’d like Night is the New Day a lot DDD

It might not be the most popular opinion, but my personal favorite is The Fall of Hearts. I really love the progressive direction they took with that one, as well as the more abstract themes and atmosphere. Out of all the artists who started incorporating vintage 70s prog sounds more prominently (Opeth, Steven Wilson, etc.), Katatonia were my favorite example of that stylistic shift... mostly because they still stayed true to their core sound and didn't go TOO far in that direction

Peak Katatonia is Last Fair Deal Gone Down, but this one might be up there if Displaced / Dissolving Bonds / Unfurl from these sessions got swapped in for Soil's Song / Consternation / Increase

My favourite is Discouraged Ones, but I probably agree LFDGD is peak Katatonia. I like TD and VE a lot too
TBH I really don't get the hype for this album. I mean July and especially My Twin are absolute pieces of beautiful music hands down, but the rest of the album I just don't feel on the same level
disclaimer: Haven't really heard anything post NITND with attention

Now that was oddly specific, porc.
Never considered that FOH has 70's prog. Please elaborate.

This record is a beast. The Itch is thick. Noone gets this as they fave then. I m a long time fan of Viva Emptiness.

More power to enjoyers of extremely weak and out of tune singing on studio albums but damn if this isn't the first listenable Katatonia record for me.
I'm not a big fan of overuse of autotune/overly heavy vocal production either but goddamn he just straight up *cannot* carry a tune on those early records and he's trying to do it anyway.
For me I'm just glad he got better.

lol he did have some sketchy vocals at times on earlier records. There are some really weird moments but I still love most of it
