First, the deluxe edition makes this album flow much better than it already is. Next, how good are Converge's breakdowns on "Empty on the Inside" and "Tender Abuse"? Neither glaringly obvious, which makes it better.
"Predatory Glow," 2:00 minute mark until the end defines how Converge are so far ahead of other bands in their genre.

This is doing nothing for me, feels like editing room floor scraps from Axe to Fall sessions. I was looking forward to them pushing the boundaries a bit but I feel they just totally fucked off in the studio. There's still some really awesome "moments" on this but on the whole, more or less the same but with a lack of compassion.
Switch Axe to Fall with this album and we are in agreement.

Love the harmonies in "Coral Blue", so tear-jerking and beautiful (it's funny cuz one of the voices is just this deep growl lol). Can't believe I just described a Converge song using the words beautiful and harmonies together.
That song is just a goddamn celebration, that's what it is.

Nah, it's truth about half the users on this site jumping on ship.
And the reason this isn't nearly as good as Axe to Fall is that it lacks a "Dark Horse" and a "Wretched World", two prime examples of how Converge do business. Like I said, this is more or less business as usual which doesn't mean bad, but lacks anything that stands out and my word, Axe to Fall and everything before it did have standout tracks. Also means if you have this rated above a 3.5, you're fanboying it.
