I'm thinking the new alb would have turned out better if it weren't for covid. Im guessing they would have had a lot more guest features which would have simeutaneously done the album the favor of putting some of Onry's terrible verses on the back burner and replacing his sorry attempts at chorus vocals and hooks as well as back ups.

i've been forcing myself to spend some more time with it and my outlook is a bit lighter

I'm finding it easier to stomach some of the stand out cringey lines now that I've paid more attention to context. Dts has always written a lot about mental health stuff and a lot of this album seems to be about the mental health of his kids generation which puts context to why he uses internet abbreviations and emoji references so much. I can empathize with a lot of the content even if the appropriation and use of the slang and concepts in rap format is inherently cringey lol.

i might up my rating to a 3 but i rly doubt it'll go up from there. i just don't find it all that engaging. it's severely lacking in features and fun hooks, but i've come around to a few tracks - poor pavel and better off in particular. the rite kids, familiars and ayemen are all solid too, but i'm very indifferent towards the rest, barring star scream which i still think is abysmal
