Its not his harsh vox that I'm complaining about. I'm fine with them going more clean but man are his vocals boring on Language. They're so monotone and mild. And the worst thing about it is that its by choice. He could be absolutely ripping with those clean vocals but chooses to bore us with that mumbling.

What I'm saying is the contrast would've helped out a lot, and would've prob formed your opinion differently today. Intuition he did an amazing job, but yea mainly on the latest record he's boring.

Was is the bands choice to minimize the use of harsh vocals or does Lessard just not want to do them?

^Maybe they gave him free reign on writing the vocals or maybe it was his condition for joining.

not like this record didn't its big space between vocal lines either.

what bothers me about lessard's performances now live is that he does these random yells and delayed whispers for atmospheric nothingness.

"what bothers me about lessard's performances now live is that he does these random yells and delayed whispers for atmospheric nothingness."

When he joined the band he started to get artsy fartsy and just a little bit too full of himself. Especially live

Well it’s got the best melodies and coolest atmospheres. Half the guitar lines sound like Rush mixed with fusion guitar. Shouldn’t be a debate, though I can see this going head to head with Language. But sometimes Language feels dull compared to some of the energy and weirdness displayed here. It’s wonderful.

Well that album is whatever, Contact is the only song I love from it. Still great in its own ways. Too many predictable song structures.

Exoplanet is wildly overrated to me despite a few saving grace's... the softer passages are by far the standout parts

"Too many predictable song structures."

I really don't get that, especially if you like Language so much (I can't really see that criticism applying to that either but it's much less of a stretch than Exoplanet).

Flourish is easily the best song they've ever done and probably one of my favourite songs of the last decade
