Well, that's a bit of a stretch isn't it? But yeah I totally get why peeps don't dig this. Even I myself will very readily acknowledge that this album connects to me on some weird level that no other album probably will again.



But believe you me that 4 wasn't handed out lightly. Neither was its placing at 4th in my personal Top Albums of 2011 list.

Well, for one, Reed's lyrics and his - dare I say it - geriatric vocal style. I know that sounds weird in light of all the criticism levied against him on this site, but I find that it adds a really visceral quality to the interpretation of the character of Lulu. I also shamelessly enjoy the aggressive freestyling that Metallica undertake in building themselves around Reed's pseudo-slam poetry. The transition between "Pumping Blood" and "Mistress Dread" is one of the things I enjoy the most about the record, and the main riff to both "Dragon" and "Frustration" is neat. "Junior Dad", although too long by half, is also pretty emotive - in a bizarre kind of way.

Junior Dad is the one track i actually quite like, the guitar work is quite nice, and the vocals aren't as 'idiosyncratic'

Seeing my grandmother in a bukkake video with a ton of black men is probably better than listening to this album.

The second half of Junior Dad is actually quite nice, but it doesn't even come close to making up for the nauseating haphazardness of the rest of the album.

Hate the album, but I love this review.

The album is so far removed from the mainstream that's its gone way over peoples heads.The People who say they would rather have their nanny spunked on than playing it and anything is better than this are infantile and lack any originality. Really, you are just repeating what thousands of other kids have said already.
And for those of you saying Metallica are dead.. The concept is very simple- its Lou Reeds album, a one off experiment with Metallica providing the music. Its not a Metallica album and not difficult to understand.
