I really dig the first side of Science. No One Receiving and Backwater are such great tracks. Here He Comes through the end is just a spectacular run though, I do agree.

The first side of science is geniusly tongue in cheek and catchy
I don't see it as any more cheesy than the first half of this :/

that's an interesting opinion

Be My Wife and What in the World are similarly having a bit of a laugh, I dunno, I guess I just really get what Eno was going for Side A of Science

Be My Wife rules so hard
One of my favorites in here

that's two songs. i'll be generous and give you "breaking glass" as well. that's still far less tongue-in-cheek than there is on science's a side
don't get me wrong i'm 100% sure it's tongue in cheek because it was supposed to. then again, so are ween...

"Eno's stuff seems mischievous in a subtle way..."
Really nice way to put it. It's consistent with his art rock LPs. Warm Jets, Tiger Mountain, AGW, Science more than the rest but there's a distinct sound in the lyrics and his presentation of playfulness or mischievousness.

there is far better ambient out there, saying that i still should check more of his ambient stuff and the albums with Robert Fripp and David Byrne
|
| |
Check Ambient 2 with Harold Budd, it's his crowning ambient achievement in my opinion.

does the Bladerunner OST count as ambient? cause if it does, there's where it is at

Eno's ambient is a grower. I know from today's perspective it seems somewhat vanilla but therein lies its charm. It's not just that it was unique then, it still is today. Although again, it's not a love at first sight - i believe i had ambient 1 at 3.0 initially as well
I suggest Ambient 4 (a darker one) and Thursday Afternoon (hyper-ambient - an hour of music that doesn't go anywhere - very interesting)

Eno's ambient work is simple but that's what makes it so great. He doesn't need layers upon layers to create a convincing atmosphere. The guy is a straight-up genius.
