dive into more Destroyer ahead of checking the New Pornographers - they're mostly indie fodder

Though I have to say after doing a deep dive into the Destroyer discog a couple years ago it didn't yield as many remarkable albums as I had hoped - a lot I rated 4s at the time but most I've bumped down. I do properly love this one and Rubies though and there are a handful of remarkable songs on just about every album. Bejar's writing is definitely an acquired taste - this is probably the most immediate album he's made I reckon.

I listened to Rubies before this and was impressed, especially the opening song. I was gonna listen to Streethawk, Poison Season, and ken also

That'll pretty much get you the essentials (though I'm not big on Ken). I might suggest trying Your Blues as well, if you're still jonesing for more at that point.

I'm getting the sense they don't really sound like this album anywhere else except maybe Poison? I mainly just want more music like this, one of the smoothest and most blissful albums of the decade. Kinda reminds me of A Deeper Understanding by The War on Drugs.

New Pornographers aren't that good tbh

This Night and Thief are very underrated Destroyer records however
and no, Poison Season is nothing like this

This Night is my least favorite, ugh what a slog. Haven’t heard Thief. And yeah Poison Season is v different than this.

It's for the best, since Dan really is someone who doesn't like to repeat himself (take note Kayo Dot man)

I just discovered "The Laziest River" which is more like this kind of. It seems to be a 20 minute song comprised of 5 movements,"Prelude (Estuary)" 2. "Nagel's Marimba" 3. "The Laziest River" 4. "Palm Springs Life" 5. "Landing on Water"
There's also an alternate version of Bay of Pigs that's 2 minutes longer, and a song with just synth and vocals called Ravers.

Yep, there's a lot of vinyl-only (Laziest River, Loscil's Rubies) and b-side stuff floating about out there. You could probably make a decent double album out of them

Laziest River is on my version of the album and imo is absolutely essential to it

This is basically a 5 with The Laziest River and Ravers.

It's still a 5 without Laziest River...but I fell for it with Laziest River in the tracklist and I find it lends any listen that much more magic

New song “Crimson Tide” is wonderful, kinda reminds me of this record. Would be great if the new album was a return to this style.
I listened to the rest of their discography not counting the first few releases. I’m pretty much on the same page as Boney I think with opinions on a lot of them. This is their best and Night is my least favorite.
I hear some elements of this on Poison Season and ken, especially the softer tracks.

This will surely will be in many people's decade end lists right? Tempted to finally 5 it.

You're at the right place probably because this is incredible. I haven't checked out much else as much though so I'm not the right guy to answer that.
