It is absolutely absurd to assert that by stating an opinion I am responsible for the reactions I receive.

That's unfortunate. The most interesting conversation I've had on this site in months.

Idk, I don’t see the reason to nuke these pages. Sure they have nothing to do with this album but there’s also nothing particularly vitriolic aside from maybe a few parks/porc posts (but even then, far worse posts exist and continue to exist in this site). Genuine conversation regarding social expectations, implications, and consequences. Never thought I’d be having that banter on Sput but I can’t say I’m particularly disappointed.
Back on topic: Album rules, but is only maybe my…fifth (?) favorite Swans album. I’d have to think hard about it but would definitely place Filth, To Be Kind, The Seer, and Soundtracks about this. Also quite possibly Cop and the self-titled EP. So i suppose this could be as low as #7. Just a testament to the strength of their discography, to say nothing of its multifacetedness.

I’m still holding out that I’ll like one as much as the first. To be honest, I like each newer one less than the ones before. I like some of the grime, but really dislike all the repetition.

(By "the first" I'm assuming you mean FILTH and not their self-titled EP.) I agree insofar that FILTH is still my favorite album of theirs, but it's difficult for me to imagine a world where someone loves FILTH but can't find something to love about at least one other Swans album. I get what you're saying about repetition (that's a *massive* part of their discography, a thread that transcends all their appointed "eras") and FILTH is probably the one album that sidesteps that to some degree. You don't like SOUNDTRACKS FOR THE BLIND? It has its moments of repetition, sure, but the album itself is so varied and eclectic that I can't imagine repetition being the main reason for disfavor in that case.

What the hell happened here? Tamest comment ever gets a needlessly confrontational response and then Anthracks spends the next 1,000 words defending themselves for absolutely no necessary reason + digging a hole in the process.
It's a shame because you were quite clearly winning this.

In fact I feel like I've missed something as I'm not sure what sparked the initial response, was it really just a comment about Swans sucking? Lol

I need to take this opportunity to clarify yet again that I have no issue with Anthracks or his comment or personal feelings toward Swans, I was merely engaging in a thought experiment and logical debate with the guy because the masochist in me enjoys such exigent discourse and simply cannot resist. I have carried with me the feeling all this time that this sentiment was mutual (viz. I think he knows I have no issue with him and was just trying to engage a bit beyond the surface-level toss-offs).

Tec, I am referring to FILTH. Wonderful album, and like very little else for its time. I don’t think I’ve heard Soundtracks yet, but I will listen to several more of their albums as time goes on.
Demon, I don’t see a need for winning or losing anything nor is that my motivation. I’m just trying to explain my position. It was pretty clear that I wasn’t explaining myself properly, or wasn’t being understood, so I tried to elaborate based off the responses I was getting.
