I haven't jammed anything newer than ToT (full albums, that is; I know various newer tracks), but I feel the instant dislike this band gets is a bit exaggerated.

The new album is pretty different from what you've heard before, there's almost no 'metal' and almost all of the over-the-top solo's are gone. They really focussed on songwriting and orchestration on this record, but the problem is that that makes the record boring in some places. Mangini completely dissapoints in the new album, having no cool beats or fills at all...
