I don't think the dense atmosphere is their best sound. I much prefer the lightweight, almost galactic feel of Burst Apart. I can say objectively speaking it took a lot of talent to create this album, but I definitely think they've done better.

"This doesn't exploit anything, it's not like The Antlers expect to make millions off their music"
-why reduce his point to the monetary side

That's the only way I initially took it, unless you think that he's emotionally exploiting listeners...but then again, doesn't all music more or less project the artist's emotions onto the listener?

i don't think he would agree with you, and honestly i don't either. while i completely understand that most musicians are trying to project their emotions onto the listeners, there's definitely different ways to approach this, and levels on which you do it

i'm not necessarily talking about this album tho, i haven't even heard it, but i think it could be an interesting discussion to have. just an opinion tho, it ok if we disagree

edit: lol page breaks

@Snake: This has always been my rating for it, and I don't think a 3 condemns it as being lousy or anything. I enjoy it, but not as much as any of their other works. I even prefer In the Attic of the Universe, which IMO is vastly underrated.

@Asdfp: Yeah it would definitely be interesting to dissect the motives of different musicians and what they hope to accomplish with their music. Perhaps I could steal a Sputnik Discusses slot from Davey to bring it up.

Kettering fucking rules. Always gets my hopes up and then the next three tracks hit and I start wishing I was listening to Burst Apart, hopefully this time it will click. Got the lyrics pulled up in a separate window my friend.
