BSSM's mix is too quiet though.

Better to be too quiet than too loud. You can always crank it

I agree. .....Death Magnetic is a reminder of that! I mean the production on BSSM is better than on this, just wish it was a little louder and fuller.

Yeah but once you crank the volume it's absolutely perfect.

Why? It's already compressed as fuck... Wouldn't get better when remastering it.

otherside is still the jam

the quality is pretty bad at least on the few tracks i listened to with a decent setup but idk if that's

just youtube's encoding

edit: if they have the original audio files sitting around, there's no reason a re-master wouldn't fix the

compression issues... i'm not really sure what you're trying to say there

I read the problems here stem right down to recording though.

@toxin: My point is that remastered versions tend to be even more compressed than the original ones. Of course they could diminish compression and increase the dynamic range in theory, but regarding the development in the production of records in general it seems very unlikely to me that this will happen. Or can you name a remastered version that tops the original one in this respect?

@Davil, okay you got me there. I actually never really thought about that but I guess you're right. I can hold out hope that they'll fix it. I love Otherside but the cymbals sound so bad and the mixing is just terrible in general.

Such a shame. Gave this a proper listen and didn't realize how great the lyrics were

@benkim

Is that so? Don't most bands record instruments separately, though? I'm no audio engineer, but if the issue is the mixing and equalization, you'd think it'd be fixable assuming they're sitting around somewhere.

One of my all time favorite records. Rarely do I have distinctive memories that I can equate to something more than a smell or visual queue. However, each song on this album I can recall having some association with growing up.

My memories are filled with summer camp and sports and laughter, as well as jamming out to Californication songs with my buddies. Such passion and musicianship are hard to come by, it seems, especially in a band that had done it all before. Californication marked a huge turning point in my music life. The songs are so catchy and well written, and Flea and Frusciante are absolutely mesmerizing.

A+ from on of my favorite bands.

Fav tracks: Around The World, Easily, Savior, This Velvet Glove
