Yeah Travis def hits it lyrically here, just the right amount of [clever / self deprecating / wistful], great individual lines, including ones that “sneak up on you”

indeed
memory machine hits particularly hard

Happiness is such hard work, and it gets harder every day and it can kill you, but
No one wants to be that tacky about it

I think I could make an argument for You Are Invited being the best song ever written… is that a hot take?

Nah but there are like 5 better songs on here
|
| |
musically I totally agree, but there’s just something in the way that song hits that isn’t like anything else
it’s like the one song on the album that is mentally healing instead of mentally ill

you are invited is interesting because it really seems to get complete opposite reactions
i think its one of the weaker tracks although i still love it
and id describe it as affirming rather than dismaying
|
| |
it’s so bare bones that I see why people don’t like it, but it’s all about how it builds
It’s like “A Warm Place” on the downward spiral, a necessary reprieve on a very heavy album
|
| |
if it wasn’t for the end of verse 2 into the second chorus it really wouldn’t be a good song.. but then it all makes sense

also if you haven’t listened to the standalone single “Since You Died”, change that
|
| |
Johnny that song is utter garbage

I don’t like The Dismemberment Plan… Is Scared much either as album if that helps explain my opinion. I like when music, ya know, includes music
