If it wasn't for Primitive Ways, Death would have had the honor of having no bad songs in all of their discography.

Can't take Pillow seriously on Death. Or on metal in general for that
matter.
He denies it, but he's gotta be a troll.

Up to you, either way 1'ing this is utterly insane.

lol it's not actually a 1. more like a 2.5
idk, death sound good for like a song or two and then everything just starts to sound homogeneous.
it's just not very enjoyable musically imo. influential and whatever, i won't deny that, but a
little tedious after a few tracks. i mean comparing arcade fire and death is ridiculous obviously,
but if i had to argue it, and note my primary criticism regarding a lot of death metal, i'd say
other genres seem to have larger sonic palettes to offer. whether you like arcade fire or not is
irrelevant, but you can't deny that every song on albums like funeral and neon bible sound very
noticeably different. with death their songs all carry the same familiar atmosphere, the guitar
solos often sound the same and kind of pointless, and there just isn't much in the way of variety. i
don't have these issues with bands like atheist

'idk, death sound good for like a song or two and then everything just starts to sound homogeneous'
Stopped reading right thur.

good thing you don't get butthurt about opinions like some of the other people on here
|
| |
but i mean death metal, or metal in general, isnt really about the sonic palette. in fact, id make the case that almost all death metal is about the visceral quality of the music. its about the way it makes you feel, which is why it mainly appeals to angry white people.
its more about "wow that was a sweet riff" than "wow this song is compositionally and texturally intriguing!"
its braindead music but just sounds so good when you're in the mood for it.

People have different ears, it happens.

gyro why do you listen to dm if you obvi don't like it?
|
| |
see, the way you just explained it makes it sound bloody awful, hype. lol. i get in the mood for metal (and i do love a lot of metal (black metal being my favourite subgenre of metal)) but i like to be engaged when listening to music. i like to hear things that sound intriguing and different and beautiful and angry and so on, but this doesn't do it for me.
tempest: focus, unquestionable presence, and elements are some of my favourite albums ever. i think the genre has a lot of potential and it usually sounds best when blending with other genres to create something aesthetically new and exciting. i don't think i have any favourite moments on this album because so many of them sound the same to me
